01 · What changed at OVHcloud
One announcement, three different bills.
OVHcloud announced the changes on 11 August 2026. The +87% headline is real but applies to one range; most customers are looking at +28% or +51%, and Public Cloud is an unbundling rather than a rate rise. Which one, for which OVHcloud bill.
The right move depends on which OVHcloud line item went up, not on which provider is cheapest in the abstract.
OVH BARE METAL (+28% TO +87%)
Single-tenant metal, monthly.
This is the range that moved the most, and it only has single-tenant answers. NODED.CLOUD dedicated servers start at €209/mo on Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC Genoa/Bergamo from €449/mo, unmanaged with full root and IPMI, 1–200 Gbps ports, stock configurations shipping in under 60 minutes. Hetzner's dedicated line is the other EU-owned option at this price band, limited to Germany and Finland. A RAM-dense OVH Game or High Grade box maps to our EPYC SKUs; an Advance box maps to Xeon.

Public Cloud users are the natural hourly-billing buyers, so compare metering rules first: NODED.CLOUD meters per second with an hourly and a monthly cap and no minimum term, Hetzner rounds up to the hour and bills until you delete the server, Scaleway bills by the hour. Monthly VPS, if you must stay monthly.
The VPS 2027 range was not part of the announced bare-metal increase, so there is no urgency to move a plain OVH VPS. If you leave anyway, netcup (€5.91/mo incl. VAT, 12-month term) and Contabo (€5.50/mo promotional) are the monthly-commitment answers, and both are German companies. NODED.CLOUD's €4/mo cap buys the same "monthly" price with the option to stop paying the moment you delete the server.

04 · Migration checklist
Six steps, zero mid-term cancellations.
Written for a Public Cloud or bare-metal customer with a renewal date in October. Adapt the order to your own term.
- Count IPv4 addresses and block volumes per instance. From 1 October the Public Cloud bill is driven by those two counts. Instances with one IP and no volume barely move; drop unused Failover IPs and orphaned volumes before you compare anything.
- Find your renewal dates. Installed bare metal reprices at renewal from 1 October, at a smaller rate than new orders. A box renewing in December buys you three months to migrate calmly; a box renewing on 2 October does not.
- Export or snapshot every workload — database dumps, object-storage sync, config in git. Test a restore on the target before the cutover day, not during it.
- Lower DNS TTLs to 300 seconds at least 24 hours before switching. If you own your address space, announce it on the new provider via BYOIP on AS60982 instead and skip the DNS dance.
- Stand up the replacement on an hourly VPS and run both for 24–48 hours. On per-second billing a two-day parallel run of a €4/mo shape costs about €0.27, which is the cheapest insurance in this list.
- Cut over, watch error rates for a day, then cancel OVHcloud at the end of the paid term. Cancelling mid-term forfeits what you already paid and gains nothing.

We buy the same RAM.
Nobody in European hosting is insulated from a six-fold DDR5 increase. Choose a destination for reasons that survive the next component cycle.

Per-second metering means a future list-price change lands on the hours you ran, not on 720 idle ones. An EU-incorporated operator keeps your data under EU law regardless of which data centre it sits in. Neither of those depends on the DRAM market.

OVHcloud, Hetzner, netcup and Scaleway all repriced in 2026 because RAM rose roughly six-fold and NVMe about seven-fold over the year. NODED.CLOUD buys those parts in the same market with less volume. A migration made purely to escape a price increase is a migration to a provider who is about to have one.

What exactly did OVHcloud change on 1 September 2026?
Bare-metal list prices for new orders rose on 1 September 2026: about +28% on Gen 2024 configurations, +51% on Gen 2026, up to +59% on High Grade and +87% on the Game range, while Kimsufi, So You Start and Rise were left unchanged. Already-installed servers follow at renewal from 1 October, with smaller increases. Public Cloud switches on 1 October to billing IPv4 addresses and Low Latency Block Storage separately, which adds roughly 1.4% to 21.9% per instance depending on how many IPs and volumes it carries.

Which OVHcloud alternatives are actually EU-owned?
NODED.CLOUD (X ZONE IT SRL, Romania), Hetzner (Germany), netcup (Germany), Scaleway (France) and Contabo (Germany) are all EU-incorporated, so EU law governs both the data centre and the company that operates it. DigitalOcean offers Amsterdam and Frankfurt regions but is a US company, so the US CLOUD Act still reaches data stored there.

What is the cheapest OVHcloud alternative for a small VPS?
It depends on how you pay. On a monthly commitment, Contabo (€5.50/mo promotional) and netcup (€5.91/mo incl. VAT on a 12-month term) give the most RAM per euro. If you want hourly billing with no term, NODED.CLOUD starts at €0.0056/hr (capped at €4/mo), Hetzner CX23 at €0.0088/hr (€5.49/mo) and Scaleway DEV1-S at €0.00898/hr. Compare the metering rule, not just the headline rate.

Can I keep my OVHcloud IP addresses when I migrate?
Only if you own the address space. OVHcloud-assigned IPs stay with OVHcloud. If you hold your own /24 (IPv4) or /48 (IPv6), NODED.CLOUD can announce it from AS60982 via BYOIP with an LOA and a valid RPKI ROA, so mail reputation and allow-lists survive the move. Otherwise plan a DNS cutover with a low TTL.

Is any provider immune to the RAM and NVMe price surge?
No. Every host buys DDR5 and NVMe in the same component market that pushed OVHcloud, Hetzner, netcup and Scaleway to reprice in 2026, and NODED.CLOUD buys in it with less volume than any of them. What you can control is the billing model: on per-second metering a future list-price change hits the hours you actually ran, not 720 hours of a mostly idle box.

How do I migrate off OVHcloud with the least downtime?
Count your IPv4 addresses and block volumes first — that is what the October Public Cloud model bills. Snapshot or dump each workload, lower DNS TTLs to 300 seconds a day ahead, stand the replacement up on an hourly VPS and run both in parallel for 24–48 hours, then repoint DNS and cancel the OVHcloud service at the end of its paid term rather than mid-term.
