How many viewers fits on the port?

Serving viewers straight off your own origin, the egress you need is simply concurrent viewers × the bitrate of the rendition they pull. The numbers below are that arithmetic, at 80% of the port so there is headroom for ingest, transcode pull and retransmits. Put a CDN in front and the origin only serves the edge instead.

Concurrent viewers per uplink, by rendition bitrate (direct-from-origin)
RenditionBitrate per viewer100 viewers1,000 viewersViewers at 1 GbpsViewers at 10 Gbps
720p303 Mbps0.3 Gbps3 Gbps~265 viewers~2,650 viewers
1080p304.5 Mbps0.5 Gbps5 Gbps~175 viewers~1,775 viewers
1080p606 Mbps0.6 Gbps6 Gbps~130 viewers~1,330 viewers
1440p609 Mbps0.9 Gbps9 Gbps~88 viewers~888 viewers
4K60 (HEVC)15 Mbps1.5 Gbps15 Gbps~53 viewers~533 viewers

Multi-bitrate ladders multiply the transcode cost, not the egress — a viewer still pulls one rendition at a time. Fanning the same feed out to Twitch, YouTube and Kick costs one upload per destination, a few Mbps each: see the self-hosted multistreaming setup.

02 · The pipeline

Ingest to player, one server.

RTMP at the door, multi-bitrate HLS in the middle, viewers served straight from your origin — with software you install and control.
INGEST

RTMP, SRT, WebRTC — your choice.

Push from OBS, Streamlabs, vMix, hardware encoders, or your own pipeline. Nothing of ours sits in the path, so your bitrate ladder is your bitrate ladder.

03 · Built in

The whole pipeline, yours.

No "streaming module" upcharge — unshaped, unmetered servers with full root.

OBS, FFmpeg, RTMP, HLS

Full root for the whole streaming stack: install the ingest, transcode and HLS software you use on a plain Linux image.

No per-VM bandwidth cap

Unlike our standard shapes, streaming shapes carry no throughput ceiling at all — you push what the node uplink will carry. Traffic is unmetered, with no overage charges.

SSD scratch + cache

Hot transcoded files stay on the local ZFS SSD pool, with no IOPS ceiling set. Need more room? Add 50–150 GB of extra disk at checkout.

Seven locations

Origins in Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Ashburn (US East), on our own AS60982.

DDoS protection included

100 Gbps of always-on Layer 3 and 4 protection upstream of your origin. Nothing to enable.

AVC + HEVC on CPU

x264/x265 encoding on up to 12 vCPU. There are no GPU or hardware-encoder shapes.

1 free IPv4, plus IPv6

A dedicated static IPv4 for your RTMP/SRT ingest endpoint, included — plus free IPv6 in Romania, the Netherlands and Germany.

Streaming protocols

Every protocol, your choice.

RTMP at the door, SRT for unreliable links, HLS / LL-HLS for the player. Install the server software you prefer on a plain Linux image.

OBS-Ready VPS — RTMP Ingest from €9.99/mo

A streaming VPS from €9.99/mo is enough for a single 6 Mbps OBS Studio push: install Nginx-RTMP on port 1935, add stream-key auth, and record VODs to the local SSD. Unmetered traffic with no per-VM bandwidth ceiling, in Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria or Ashburn (US East). Use it as a private RTMP origin before fanout to Twitch, YouTube and Kick.

Nginx-RTMP Server

Nginx with the RTMP module is a standard install on Debian or Ubuntu: enable the HLS and DASH packagers, listen on tcp/1935 for ingest and tcp/80 for playback, and add relay to a backup server, MP4 recording and on-publish hooks as you need them. SSD scratch for VOD; unmetered traffic with no per-VM bandwidth ceiling. Need raw transcoding cores? Step up to dedicated bare metal.

SRT Origin & Relay — Listener and Caller Modes

Run a Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) origin with srt-live-transmit, or the SRT support in MediaMTX, for example on udp/9999. Caller, Listener and Rendezvous modes all work, and SRT's retransmission covers unreliable last-mile links. Works with hardware encoders and OBS 27+. SSD write buffer, unmetered traffic with no per-VM bandwidth ceiling, in any of the seven VPS locations. Pair with a second VPS for playback.

HLS / LL-HLS Origin

Serve HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and Apple Low-Latency HLS straight from your origin: Nginx or MediaMTX serving .m3u8 and .ts/CMAF segments over HTTPS, with short segment durations for lower latency and hls.js as the browser fallback. Egress is unmetered. Need single-tenant origin? Move to dedicated bare metal.

Owncast Self-Hosted — Twitch Without the Tax

Owncast is an open-source, single-server Twitch alternative: install it on a streaming VPS and it listens on tcp/1935 (RTMP ingest) and tcp/8080 (web player + chat), with built-in HLS packaging and Fediverse integration. No Twitch fees, no per-viewer cost from us. Pair with plain VPS for satellite chat moderators or dedicated metal for transcoding.

MediaMTX & MistServer — Multi-Protocol Origins

MediaMTX (formerly rtsp-simple-server) speaks RTSP, RTMP, HLS, WebRTC, SRT and LL-HLS out of one binary on configurable ports; MistServer is the alternative, with its UI on tcp/4242 and ingest auto-detect across RTMP/RTSP/SRT/WebRTC. Install either on a streaming VPS and multistream to Twitch, YouTube and Kick at once, with no per-platform fee from us. Encoding runs on CPU. Unmetered traffic, unshaped, in six EU countries plus Ashburn (US East).

05 · Streaming VPS or DIY?

Built for streaming, or stack-it-yourself. Same bill either way.

Same network, same panel. The streaming VPS drops the per-VM bandwidth ceiling; the plain VPS keeps it and costs less.

06 · FAQ

Things people ask.

Quick answers to the questions we get most. Need more? Talk to us.
Q.01
Can I push an OBS RTMP stream without a re-encode hop?
Yes. OBS pushes RTMP straight to the server you run — nothing of ours sits in between, so nothing re-muxes your stream. Generate HLS on the same VPS with the software you install.
Q.02
Do you handle the multi-bitrate HLS ladder, or do I need a CDN?
Either way. Transcode the ladder on-CPU with FFmpeg on a larger shape, or send the feed to a CDN or streaming service you already use. Egress is unmetered, so origin pulls cost nothing extra.
Q.03
How many concurrent viewers can a streaming VPS handle?
Streaming shapes are the only ones we do not rate-limit — there is no per-VM ceiling, so your throughput is whatever the node uplink will carry, and traffic is unmetered either way. As a planning figure, 1 Gbps of sustained egress is roughly 130 concurrent 1080p60 viewers direct from origin; past that, put a CDN in front or spread origins across regions.
Q.04
What is the live streaming latency from origin to player?
That depends on the protocol and the media server you run rather than on the VPS: plain HLS is the slowest of the common options, LL-HLS and WebRTC are much lower. Nothing of ours sits between your origin and the player.
Q.05
Can I bring my own RTMP authentication or ingest server?
Yes. Plug in nginx-rtmp, srtla-rec, OvenMediaEngine, or any custom auth shim — root access on every plan.
Q.06
How is a DDoS attack on a live broadcast handled?
100 Gbps of always-on Layer 3 and 4 mitigation sits upstream of your origin, so floods aimed at the IP are filtered before they reach the server. Included on every shape; higher tiers up to 10 Tbps are a per-server add-on.
