Noded vs Hetzner: Honest Bare Metal & Network Comparison (2026)

Honest comparison of Noded and Hetzner: where each one wins, where each one doesn't, and how to decide based on your actual workload — not marketing claims.

Disclaimer: All Hetzner pricing, specifications, and feature claims in this article are based on publicly available information from hetzner.com as of May 2026. Hetzner updates their offerings frequently — please verify current details on their official site before making a purchasing decision. Statements about Noded reflect our own services as of the same date.

Hetzner is one of the best-known dedicated server providers in Europe, and for good reason — they've built a reputation on aggressive pricing and fast deployments. We've written this guide because customers regularly ask us how Noded compares.

This is intentionally honest. Hetzner is excellent at certain things, and we'll say so plainly. We're excellent at different things, and we'll explain those too. The goal is to help you choose what actually fits your workload — even if that's not us.

Where Hetzner Wins

Hetzner has earned its reputation. Here's what they're great at:

Price

For raw compute in Europe, Hetzner is hard to beat. Their EX-line and AX-line dedicated servers, particularly in their auction marketplace, deliver excellent price-per-thread.

Provisioning Speed

Many Hetzner servers deploy in minutes. Their automation pipeline is mature and reliable for standard configurations.

Bandwidth Inclusion

Many Hetzner plans include 20+ TB of monthly traffic at no extra charge — great for content-heavy or download-heavy workloads.

Ecosystem

Hetzner Cloud (VPS), Storage Box, Backup Service, and dedicated servers all live in one account. For customers who want a single supplier for everything from VPS to bare metal, this is convenient.

Stability

Hetzner has been around since 1997 and has a long track record of reliable operation.

Where Noded Is Different

Noded targets a different customer profile. We're built for people who care about networking and IP infrastructure as much as compute.

BYO IP Space and Full BGP

If you have your own ASN and IP prefixes (or want to lease them), Noded supports announcing them from our network with full BGP, RPKI, and a published community framework. This is a first-class feature for us, not a special-request add-on.

95th Percentile IP Transit

Our IP transit uses standard 95th percentile billing — the same model used by every major carrier. You see your usage in real time and pay for sustained bandwidth, not raw transferred volume. For predictable high-traffic workloads, this is often more economical than flat-rate caps once you cross a certain volume.

Integrated IPAM

Every customer gets access to a full IPAM for tracking IPv4 and IPv6 allocations, reverse DNS, and integration with provisioning automation.

Direct Network Engineering Access

If you need to discuss BGP communities, traffic engineering, or DDoS scrubbing strategies, you talk directly to network engineers — not a tier-1 ticket queue.

Network-Dense Locations

We prioritize carrier-dense, IXP-connected facilities so that customers' traffic has good global routing and peering options.

Where Hetzner May Be the Better Choice

Honestly, here are situations where we'd recommend Hetzner:

  • You just need cheap compute for web apps, batch jobs, or dev environments and don't care about networking customization.
  • Your budget is tight and you can fit your workload in a Hetzner data center.
  • You want their auction marketplace — there's nothing else quite like it for refurbished hardware deals.
  • You need Hetzner Cloud's VPS pricing for elastic, smaller workloads.
  • Your workload doesn't need BGP, BYO IP, or carrier-grade transit.

Where Noded May Be the Better Choice

Conversely, here's when we'd say give us a try:

  • You're an ASN holder who wants to announce your own /24 from a hosting provider's network.
  • You're multi-homing across two or more transit providers and need real BGP control.
  • You're building anycast services and need a network that supports same-prefix announcements from multiple PoPs.
  • You're a hosting reseller, ISP, or MSP who needs to manage IP space, transit, and bare metal as a unified product.
  • You want 95th percentile billing rather than flat traffic caps as your usage grows past simple use cases.
  • You want direct relationships with the network engineers running your transit.

Cost Comparison Notes

Comparing total cost is harder than comparing line-item prices. A few things to think about:

  • Hetzner's flat traffic is great until you exceed it. Above included caps, overage costs add up.
  • Noded's 95th percentile transit is metered — predictable for steady traffic, advantageous when traffic is spiky (since the top 5% gets discarded).
  • BGP/BYO IP availability changes the comparison entirely. If Hetzner can't announce your prefix the way you need, the savings are moot.
  • DDoS protection terms differ — verify what's included and what triggers it on each side.

Bottom line: at small scale, Hetzner is almost always cheaper. As your workload involves more networking, the comparison flips for many customers.

Migration Path

Many of our customers run hybrid setups: Hetzner for cheap compute and dev, Noded for production network-sensitive workloads, with VPN or private interconnect linking them. This is a perfectly reasonable architecture and we have customers doing exactly this.

Talk to Both Providers

If you're choosing between Hetzner and Noded, talk to both. Hetzner's team can answer questions about their specific offerings; our team can model your TCO and tell you honestly whether Hetzner is the better fit. We'd rather you go with Hetzner and be happy than sign with us and regret it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Noded cheaper than Hetzner?

For pure compute on standard configurations, no — Hetzner is typically cheaper, especially through their auction marketplace. Where Noded's pricing wins is on network-heavy workloads or when you need features Hetzner doesn't offer (BYO ASN announcements, 95th percentile transit, integrated IPAM).

Can I run BGP at Hetzner?

Hetzner supports BGP and BYO IP space on certain product lines with restrictions and approvals. Confirm with their team for your specific needs. At Noded, BGP and BYO IP are first-class features, not special-request add-ons.

Does Noded have data centers in Germany like Hetzner?

Our location list is on noded.cloud — the right answer depends on your latency and compliance needs, which we can match.

Can I use both providers?

Absolutely — many customers do. Use Hetzner for cheap compute, Noded for network-heavy workloads, link them with VPN or private interconnect. We're happy to help architect this.

What about Hetzner Cloud (VPS)?

Hetzner Cloud is a different product (VPS) with different pricing characteristics. For pure VPS at the lowest cost, it's a strong choice. Noded offers VPS too, but our differentiation is in networking, not in undercutting Hetzner Cloud's price floor.
